Abstract: Accepting diversity, when it comes to management, imposes new approaches, adapted to the current social and economic context, which means understanding and accepting cultural differences. The interaction between cultures, the problematic aspects that result from the cultural differences evoke relevant debate topics. The intercultural professional interactions often highlight the problematic aspects, such as: a defective communication, the activation of stereotypes about the other culture, with potential implications in the effective performance of a business. Considering the implications of the stereotypes and prejudices within the business context, approaching this topic, from the management perspective is more than justified. This quantitative research, part of a wide study that analyzes stereotypes and prejudices within the business environment, brings into focus the stereotypes and prejudices existing among the Italian and German businessmen, towards the Romanian managers and employees. The starting hypothesis is that negative stereotypes and prejudices appear more frequently among those categories developing subordination relationships. The results of the research revealed similarities regarding the perception of the Romanian managers and employees from the Italian and German perspectives, but also significant differences, depending on the nationality, regarding the stereotypes circulated.

Abstract: Our paper focuses on to the problem of the increasing teenage suicides in the Russian Federation and worldwide. Our aim is to find a range of effective and economic diagnostic tools allowing us to reveal the key social risks of suicide intentions of deviant teenagers in criteria of existential and humanistic psychology. We propose a model validation of the new diagnostic tools executed through a field survey helping us to establish the identity of the teenager and its connection with society (e.g. relations with a reference group, family, educators, as well as emotional, behavioral reactions to social situations and social milieu). Our findings showed that such psychological disturbances as health issues, interpersonal, behavioral responses, and family relationships might be considered as predictors of suicidal behavior for teenagers.

Abstract: A group is termed a quasi-free group if it is a free product of cyclic groups of any order. Free groups being free product of infinite cyclic groups show that quasi-free groups are the free product of a free group and a number of finite cyclic groups. In this paper we show that for any group G there exists a group denoted H(G) and is called the associated group of G and show that if F is a quasi-free group and G is any group then H(F) is trivial and H(FG)  H(G). 2010 Mathematics Subject Classification: Primary 16U60, 20C05, 16S34, 20E06; Secondary 20C10, 20C40

Volume 74, Dec 2018
doi: 10.21506/j.ponte.2018.12.1

View Abstract   Hide Abstract   |   PDF Version
Abstract: Introduction: The operating room atmosphere is constantly contaminated with the anesthetic gases from the leak valves of the anesthesia machines, due to the closure mechanisms of the vaporizers not being safe and even from the expiratory air of the patients. The main goal in designing this study was to create safer and healthier conditions by cleaning the operating theaters, the ongoing work areas of the anesthetists, of the inhaler pharmacological agents used. Methods: This work was based on the identification of circulating anesthetic agents in the flow circulation. For this reason, it is planned for this purpose to prepare a circuit consisting of two gas modules, the respiratory circuit which will measure the anesthetic agent, and an activated carbon filter. Results: The total elimination time for isoflurane was 71 hours, for sevoflurane 49 hours and for desflurane 23 hours. When the amounts of volatile agents in the incoming and outgoing streams were equalized, an increase of 370 gr for isoflurane, 312 gr for sevoflurane and 335 gr for desflurane was observed. Conclusion: We believe that active carbon containing filter which will be integrated into the waste gas system will make the operating room environment safer for anesthetic gases and that chronic exposure to exhaust gases can be reduced considerably by regular use. Furthermore, in hospitals with active waste gas systems, the using of activated carbon filter at the atmospheric release point of the waste gases, can be considered.

Abstract: This article substantiates the necessity for improving approaches towards optimization of a dividend policy of oil and gas companies. Therefore, this research develops a new conceptual approach in the theory of corporate management aiming at substantiating the feasibility for considering a dividend structure factor of a company, while maximizing the company's market value. A quantitative measurement of the level of optimum dividend payouts that are differentiated according to the company's capital structure is an advantage of this approach. A functional dependence of the company's market value against the level of dividend payouts, with regard to the company's capital structure, has been presented. A range of quantitative levels of dividend payouts of oil and gas companies under consideration has been calculated, and a type of the optimum policy regarding the established company's capital structure has been determined, in accordance with such range. Such approach allows for substantiating the most effective type of the dividend policy subject to the financial condition of the company for maximizing its market value. It utilizes the subjectivity in the course of optimizing the company's dividend policy and ensures accurate evaluation of the optimum level of dividend payouts. It facilities increasing efficiency of the net profit of oil and gas companies under consideration and building capacity of the market value of such companies.

Abstract: One of the topical themes of foreign and domestic psychology is research on reflection. Unswerving interest causes a wide range of unexplored questions in the topic.\r\nThe object of the study: 70 students, 18 to 23 years of age.\r\nThe subject of the study: self-conception and reflection.\r\nThe purpose of the study: to identify the relationship between self-conception and reflection.\r\n1) Studying the characteristics of students\' self-esteem;\r\n2) Revealing the levels of development of their reflection;\r\n3) Determining the relationship between self-conception and reflection.\r\n\r\nHypothesis: students with a developed level of reflection can have high rates of self-conception.\r\nNovelty of the study: new results were obtained, revealing the relationship between reflection and self-conception.\r\nResearch methods: RS Panteleevas technique for self-conception research [1], E.E. Rukavishnikovas definition of the level of reflection formation [2], Dembo-Rubinsteins method for identifying self-esteem and Student\'s T-criterion.\r\nThe methodological basis of the study: the works of various authors on reflection (R. Decart, J. Locke, G.Gegel, I.Kant, SLRubinshtein, etc.) and self-awareness (self-conception) (Vygotsky, S.S. R. Panteleyev, V.V. Stolin, V.A. Stepanov, R. Burns, N.I. Sarjveladze and others).\r\n\r\nThe hypothesis put forward at the beginning of the study was not confirmed, no correlation between the students\' reflection and self-conception was found.\r\nThe indicator of self-confidence is found to be most pronounced and among the factors of self-conception the same can be said about the scale of self-acceptance.\r\nStudent\'s T-criterion for independent samples shows differences in the following scales: openness (p = 0.047) is higher in females than in males, self-guidance (p = 0.029) is higher in males, pronounced differences in self-worth (p = 0) which are much higher in females.\r\nConclusions:\r\n1. Students with a high level of reflection revealed expressed self-confidence and a sense of the power of their own selfhood.\r\n2. High self-esteem causes a high rate of self-incrimination and an indicator of openness, self-attachment.\r\n3. There are big differences in the level of reflection and self-esteem between females and males: 25% of females with high level of reflection, while male students only 3%.\r\nWe have analyzed the relationship between such categories as reflection and self-conception.

Abstract: Our study focused on the isolation and identification of some bacterial strains displaying an ability to biodegrade chlorpyrifos ethyl from agricultural soils in the region of Ouargla (Ain Moussa). Soil samples contaminated with the tested pesticide have a pH of 8.58, electrical conductivity indicating slightly saline soil and very low organic matter content. These characteristics certainly favored the development of bacterial microflora. Microbial analysis of this samples revealed the presence of nine isolated and identified strains belonging to the genera Escherichia, Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter, Moraxella and / or Bordetella. These bacterial genera show a variability of their growth kinetics inducing a significant development in the presence of ethyl chlorpyrifos compared to the control. It is in this context that these bacteria can be used in a possible application in bio-remediation

EDUCATION LANGUAGE POLICY IN AFRICA

Volume 74, Dec 2018
doi: 10.21506/j.ponte.2018.12.13

View Abstract   Hide Abstract   |   PDF Version
Abstract: The purpose of this investigation was to explore the education language policy African countries use as medium of instruction in the educational systems, as well as official national languages. Such investigation was driven by two linguistic factors. First, most African countries are populated by diverse population groups which may be as many as over 100 each of which may have its own language which may not be understood by other ethnic groups. Second, each African country was governed by foreign nations, which imposed the use of their various languages for official communication. The sample was drawn from 15 countries whose geographical locations were: North, South, East, West and Central Africa, thus forming a stratified random sample regionally. The results showed that a number of countries have opted to use a foreign language as official, others have chosen to adopt both a foreign language and one of the national language as official. None of the participating countries have chosen one of their national languages as exclusively the official language. In terms of language of instruction, at primary school level a national language is used as medium of instruction. At secondary and post-secondary level, a foreign language is used as medium of instruction. The concern raised in research and the present investigation is the kind of message conveyed to both children and the population at large, given the dominance of foreign languages being used at national level and as medium of instruction educational institutions. Simply stated, the message is that their languages are inferior to the foreign languages, and without stretching the point, such message implies low self-esteem, and that Africans are inferior to people whose languages are dominating in schools and society at large.
