MANAGEMENT OF TEACHING FROM A STRATEGIC PERSPECTIVE: THE CASE OF A UNIVERSITY CAMPUS IN CHILE

Abstract:
The incorporation of planning instruments, in addition to Quality Assurance instruments (QA), and the paradigm shift on teaching and learning models in Higher Education Institutions throughout the last two decades, has been changing ways of management both in Chilean and Ibero-american universities. Considering these elements, this work pretends to demonstrate how this new reality has influence in the inner management of the university, briefly illustrating the work made at a Chilean university campus in regards to teaching management area. To achieve this goal, a case study will be presented in the form of an “organizational practice” (systematization of the experience), and it will try to reveal the difficulties confronted to implement teaching management actions, stating how the capability of installing a management instrument contributes in the improvement of efficiency standards and helps the achievement of the institution’s goals. Its consequence is the establishment of an assurance culture in regards to quality, related to an essential area of Universitys duty.
