SYNTHESIS, STRUCTURAL CHARACTERIZATION AND MICROBICIDE ACTIVITIES OF MONONUCLEAR TRANSITION METAL COMPLEXES OF 2-(2-HYDROXY-5-(P-TOLYLDIAZENYL) BENZYLIDENE) HYDRAZINECARBOTHIOAMIDE Author(s): Mohamad M. Ponte - Jun 2017 - Volume 73 - Issue 6 doi: 10.21506/j.ponte.2017.6.4 Abstract: A series of metal(II) complexes with a novel thiosemicarbazone Schiff base was syn-thesized. The Schiff base and its metal complexes were studied via (1H-,13C-, 2D-NMR, FT-IR, UVVis and ESR) spectral techniques; conductivity and magnetic moments measure-ments; elemental and thermal analyses. The ligand found to bind the metal ions via NS donor sites, adopting a neutral bidentate fashion in all complexes except ruthenium complex [(HL)2RuCl(H2O)] that exhibited a monobasic bidentate chelation fashion. All the metal complexes were found to be non-electrolytic in nature and possess distorted octahedral or square pyramidal geometries. ESR spectral data of copper(II) complexes are typical to d9 con-figuration with an axial symmetry type of a d(x2-y2) ground state and a significantly covalent environment. The microbicide activities showed that the complexes exhibit a significant activ-ity against both K. pneumonia and S. cereuisire; a moderate activity against A. niger and a low activity against E. coli.
