Abstract:
A total of 2,781 people aged 65 years or above responded to the questionnaire about life experiences and health-related quality of life. In all the aspects of the quality of life, the proportion of moderate or extreme problems was higher among women than among men. The highest rate of moderate or extreme problem was found for pain/discomfort, and the lowest rate was seen for self-care. The mean EQ-5D index of the subjects was 0.85±0.13. There was a statistically significant difference in health-related quality of life (EQ-5D) between the groups for all variables except work stress. The average health-related quality of life measured by the EQ-VAS was 63.81±17.29. In model I, moderate or extreme problem ratios were higher for anxiety/depression than for other dimensions, and frustration experience and basic desire unmet experience were high in moderate or extreme problems in all dimensions of EQ-5D. In model II, as in model I, the odds ratios of moderate or extreme problems were higher in anxiety/depression than in other dimensions, and as for frustration experience, moderate or extreme problems were high in all dimensions of the EQ-5D. The health-related quality of life of the elderly is a very important factor for well-being, wellness, and well-dying. It is important for the elderly to overcome frustration and meet basic needs to improve the health-related quality of life.
