Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to present the strategy to mitigate or remove wax and asphaltene depositions by using available information in a systematic and comprehensive form. Using the knowledge of wax and asphaltene deposition mechanisms along with the thermodynamic and hydraulic conditions of suggested or existed production system, type, severity and location of problems can be anticipated: whether formation damage takes place or wellbore depositions, etc. The various lessons learned from different development projects and the best practices were used to define the flow assurance mitigation strategies. Removal techniques are also considered. Since this paper contains as full as possible listings of testings (they are not always available because they are often proprietary of the laboratories that employ them) and mitigation and removal techniques, it therefore can be used as a reference for further exploration of these fields.
