Abstract:
For a government policy to be successful, it should be supported by citizens and especially by shareholders. Healthcare professionals try to cope with the problem of increasing obesity rates as they have first-hand experience dealing with obese patients. In order to measure how obesity taxes are perceived amongst healthcare professions, a survey was carried out with 262 professionals. The results indicate that the acceptability of obesity taxes is high amongst participants. The acceptance rate increases even more when the revenue from obesity taxes is directly allocated to tackling obesity problem. The support rates of obesity taxes for snack foods such as crisp, cola and fast foods are over 70 percent. In general healthcare professionals believe that there is a place for obesity taxes in the fight against obesity.
