Realism at the Mirror: French Heroes and Chinese Nostalgia Author(s): Alberto Castelli J. Ponte - Jul 2017 - Volume 73 - Issue 7 doi: 10.21506/j.ponte.2017.7.7 Abstract: Chinese Twentieth-century has not been solved yet; however, the dynamics of the past forty years are too complex and contradictory to be wholehearted understood. It does not mean that China is beyond our understanding, it simply presumes we will have to isolate a framework of reality and inductively proceed towards the whole. That would be Chinese Postmodern literature. The object of the present study is to define the experience of Chinese Post New-Era, or post-Tiananmen production, from the viewpoint of Western modern realism and to lay off its part in the development of realism. On a common surface of decadence, nostalgia, at last, replaces Western needs for heroes.
