Ponte - Jul 2016 - Volume 72 - Issue 7 doi: 10.21506/j.ponte.2016.7.36 Abstract: Ecotourism, as a type of responsible tourism is tourism in environment which helps to environmental preservation in addition to material and non-material benefits. This study aims to assess the capability of AranvaBidgol county to develop ecotourism using a multi-criteria assessment method called Weighted Linear Combination (WLC), GIS technology, and Analytical Network Process (ANP)giving weights method. In this study some parameters have been used which include slope, height, vegetation, soil erosion, distance from the road, from urban areas, from water resources, from attractions, temperature, rainfall and geology. Theses parameters are divided to four clusters: morphological, environmental, socio-economic and geological ones. Finally, by preparing a regional map of ecotourism capability, it has been shown that 55597/1 hectare of the region have rich capabilities for ecotourism. Since tourism activities may have negative impacts on tourists' experiences and more important than that on quality and characteristics of the tourist regions because of the absence of planning, correct management and without the calculation of capacity and capability of the region for tourism, it is necessary to apply management plans for sustainable use of the region in order to guarantee the stability of the resources, and to preserve the environment and economic use of the region.
