Abstract:
This paper aims to analyze Islamic values in da-mi-na-ti-la (daminatila) musical notation created by Raden Machjar Angga Koesoemadinata in West Java, Indonesia. The research used qualitative method with semiotic and hermeneutic approach. Data were collected by interview and literature study. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. Based on the analysis results, the Sundanese daminatila notation has developed in terms of meaning in the context of Sundanese peoples life. In the beginning, daminatila was only a notation system functioned to build knowledge of Sundanese music in a merely theoretic frame. However, today, it is also considered as a series of numbers and expressions that represents religious values especially values in the teachings of Islam, which is the five pillars of Islam, namely da referring to syahadat (confession of faith), mi referring to shalat (pray), na referring to zakat (alms), ti referring to fasting, and la referring to hajj.
