Ponte - Dec 2017 - Volume 73 - Issue 12 doi: 10.21506/j.ponte.2017.12.37 Abstract: The relevance of the study conditioned by the importance of studying language means of representation of the external appearance of a Kalmyk, the description of whom in the scientific literature is ambiguous. The main methods of research are lexical-semantic and psycholinguistic that allowed to comprehensively consider the indication of growth, physique, age, face, ears, forehead, hands, feet, eyes in the Kalmyk language. The use of extensive material is dictated by the need to create a generalized portrait of the man. The article shows that the Kalmyks attach importance to the physical characteristics of the person, details indicating the features of the man, while appreciating a good body, neatness, youthfulness men and negative �high growth, obesity, slovenliness. The article proves that the climatic habitat and economic activity of the Kalmyks contributed to the development of sensitive hearing and sharp vision, have shaped endurance, strength physique. It is proved that linguistic units are fixed ethnic image, not the settings of a specific person. The results of these questionnaires and interviews allowed us to capture the change in the estimates of features of the appearance of the Kalmyk.
