DEVOPS PRODUCT LINE ENGINEERING (DPLE): WHERE DEVOPS MEETS SOFTWARE PRODUCT LINES Author(s): SRIDEVI GUTTA ,SRINIVAS PRASAD, JAYASRI ANGARA J. Ponte - Nov 2016 - Volume 72 - Issue 11 doi: 10.21506/j.ponte.2016.11.35 Abstract: Shorter time-to-market, unstable requirements and continuous deployment cycles is leading to introduction of DevOps practices in software development process. At the same time, the role of software product lines has been rising as industry is demanding for off-the-shelf products, productivity & quality improvement, customer satisfaction, decrease in labor cost, time to market, leveraging existing resources, ability to enter into new markets & domains and to attain mass customization. Software Product Lines and DevOps share few common goals and also complement and supplement each other. The integrated DevOps Product Line Engineering approach raises the spirit of customer delight. It responds to requirements with utmost speed and meticulously. However, this integration process (DevOps-Software Product Lines Engineering) lacks theoretical foundation. There are no prior systematic studies performed. Hence, there is a strong need to develop customized Software Product Line Methods (SPLM)-DevOps adoption assessment framework which leverages the power of both SPLM and DevOps. This paper presents the comparison of Software Product Line Methods (SPLM) with DevOps and discusses various possibilities of integrating software product line with DevOps. It also presents proposed DevOps Product Line Engineering (DPLE) assessment framework.
