Ponte - Jun 2017 - Volume 73 - Issue 6 doi: 10.21506/j.ponte.2017.6.22 Abstract: The very importance of sustainable tourism lies in its motives to conserve the resources and increase the value of local culture and tradition. This research analyzes local resident's awareness of the impact of sustainable tourism and examines the education factors that influence the sustainable tourism development in B�y�kkonuk, North Cyprus. This region is the first declared pilot Eco-Agro tourism village on the island of Cyprus. The purpose of this study is to determine awareness of the local residents towards sustainable tourism according to their education level in B�y�kkonuk, North Cyprus. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was employed for the purpose of data entry, manipulation, and analysis. Factor analysis was employed to reveal validity and reliability of items related to perception of sustainable tourism. As the result of the study it is cleared that those people who studied tourism have better understanding of sustainable tourism then those who did not study tourism. The research also indicates that in terms of sustainable tourism on the local residents to raise their awareness training is an important part of proper planning.
