THE PROBLEMS OF SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS WORKING IN SPECIAL EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to identify the problems experienced by teachers working in Special Education institutions with regards to the parents, education programs, school administration and inspection process.In order to reach this aim, the opinions of 12 special education teachers working in special education institutions in Nicosia region of North Cyprus were collected during the fall semester of 2016-2017. The semi-structured open-ended interview form prepared by the researcher depending on expert opinions was employed in the research.The data obtained in the research was analyzed by means of "content analysis" among qualitative data analysis methods.�In the findings of the study, most teachers stated that the parents had problems due to different perspectives towards themselves.�There is no law in North Cyprus that includes a Special Education curriculum and a constitution.�They point out that Special Education teachers experience problems because of administrative weakness and the lack of cooperation between teachers and school administration.�Special Education teachers stated that inspections should be done frequently and should be conducted by experts in the field.�Teachers have stated that the reaction of the community is the result of the lack of awareness regarding Special Education and that their motivation decreases because of these reactions.
