Abstract:
In Europe the share of international organizations in state-to-state relations sprang up at the close of the 80s and outset of the 90s. Ad initium, the gradual emergence of political aspects in the activities of the integration units established on economic bases was evidenced. Early in the 90s, the European Union, represented by the most powerful states of Europe stood out owing to its specific role and imporrtance in worldwide policy. Bypassing Turkeys continued efforts to join the European Union, creation of artificial obstacles in this count galvanized attention. Particularly, political obstacles were created against Turkey, groundless allegations regarding national minorities were put forward, and requirements were imposed to change the countrys constitutional structure. Double standard policy against Muslim countries was also rebounded in the EU - Turkey relations. Key words: Maastricht treaty, Copenhagen criteria, Customs Union, European Council in Luxemburg, Accession Partnership.
