Abstract:
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effect of eHealth literacy (eHL) on the relation between health information orientation (HIO) and sexual health knowledge of undergraduate students. Methods: The data were collected from August to October 2016. The participants were 183 undergraduates from the metropolitan areas of South Korea. Results: The average score of sexual knowledge was 18.80 out of 28 points. The level of sexual knowledge varied according to the students general characteristics (grade, major) and health information seeking behavior. Baron and Kennys mediating effect analysis method and the 3-step regression method was used to analyze eHLs mediating effects on the relation between HIO and sexual knowledge. According to the Sobel test the mediating effect of eHL was found to be statistically significant (Z=2.08, p=.037). Conclusions: Based on the results of the current study, to enhance the level of sexual knowledge of undergraduates, HIO will positively affect sexual health knowledge via the mediating effects of eHL. The findings imply that a systematic and simultaneous education program should be developed to promote eHL and HIO to enhance sexual health knowledge of undergraduates.
