COPING STRATEGIES USED BY PAKISTANI ADOLESCENT TO RESOLVE INTERPERSONAL STRESSORS QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS

Abstract:
This study explores Pakistani adolescents’ coping strategies to resolve their interpersonal stressors. 30 college students, 15 males and 15 females with mean age of 17 participated in this study. Daily diary method was used for 42 days to obtain their daily reports of interpersonal stressors and the types of coping strategies used to resolve them. The results demonstrated that among interpersonal stressors familial stressors were on the top followed by stressors related to peers and friends. The coping strategies used to resolve these interpersonal stressors were mostly affective or cognitive in nature rather than behavioral. The mostly observed coping strategies were Religious Coping, Positive Reinterpretation and Growth, Acceptance and Planning. Results of present study have several implications for parents, teachers and professionals who work with adolescents.
