EFFECT OF BAGGING ON GROWTH AND QUALITY OF RED PITAYA FRUIT IN VIETNAM

Abstract:
The experiment was performed to evaluate the effect of bagging on fruit growth and fruit quality of red pitaya. Bagging treatments began 7 days after anthesis and continued until harvest. Physiological, biochemical characters of fruit and physically damage, pecentage defective fruit were recoded. Results indicated that fruit size, fruit weight markedly enhancing by net screen-green bag treatment, followed by paper �white bag as compared to control treatment. Moreover, net screen-green bag greatly reduced the damage by fruit fly, fruit blemished, fruit sunburn and fruit bird attack as well as fruit crack in comparison to control, followed by paper- white bag. It was concluded that both net screen-green bag and paper-white bag treatment have positive effects on fruit development, decreased fruit damage from fruit crack, fruit fly and other insect pests, enhanced fruit growth, fruit quality of red pitaya under field conditions.
