Abstract:
Although the Ministry of Education in the country understudy has devolved power and authority to schools, the extent of teacher participation in decision making is not properly known as some of them seem to have mixed/different views on their involvement in the process. The problem of non-participation of teachers in decision making seems to be of great concern to them, because they feel that it discourages initiative and genuine commitment to their work. They also feel that their useful ideas are likely to be stifled or ignored if they are not fully involved in decision making. The above views coupled with some of the teachers complaints and concerns have prompted this desk review study which sought to establish the reasons behind devolution of power to school principals.
