AN EVALUATION OF SCHOOL DIRECTORS’ AND TEACHERS’ VIEWS ABOUT SUPERVISORS’ COMMUNICATION SKILLS Author(s): Fatma Taspinar J. Ponte - Oct 2017 - Volume 73 - Issue 10 doi: 10.21506/j.ponte.2017.10.29 Abstract: Effective supervision is strongly related to the communication between the supervisor and the staff in an institution. The indication that shows the attainment of supervision is directly linked with how the staff of the supervised school understand the supervisor. Therefore, supervisors should be effective communicators and have the ability to apply it. The aim of this study was to examine and compare personal views of supervisors working for the Ministry of Education in TRNC (Turkish Republic of North Cyprus) about their communication skills and how they are perceived by the Directors and teachers in primary education. A qualitative research design was used in this study. It was carried out in five primary schools in Güzelyurt in TRNC and a sampling method was followed. The data was collected in the 2015-2016 academic year through a semi-structured personal view form answered by the teachers, directors, and the supervisors supervising these schools. It was noted that communication among teachers, directors and supervisers and verbal and non- verbal communication of the supervisors were similar. Where as, during the communication procedure, conceptions to do with problems in supervising problems seemed to be different among the involved.
