Abstract:
Image analysis using MATLAB software for characterization of liquid crystalline (LC) phases and phase transition temperatures in hydrogen bonded liquid crystal dimer viz., Succinic acid (SA) (for n=10) with molecular formula nOBA:SA:nOBA is described. SmC, SmX, SmCRE and SmG phase variance is observed by optical textures through Polarized Optical Microscope and which are confirmed by Differential Scanning Calorimetry experimental technique. Influence of flexible end chain length and length of spacer moiety on the LC polymorphism is studied and the results are compared with reports on other HBLC dimers with similar type of molecular structure. Statistical parameters of LC textures based on gray scale intensity as a function of temperature are computed and discussed.
