Abstract:
In this dynamic world, supply chain agility has been recognised as one of the supply chain management strategy to deal with responsiveness and disruptions of the supply chain to gain a competitive advantage in a competitive emerging market such as South Africa. The purpose of this study is to analyse the relationship between supply chain agility and supply chain responsiveness and competitive advantage in South African manufacturing firms. The study was conducted in Gauteng Province of South Africa. The study was conducted using a quantitative research methodology applying structural equation modelling. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to assess the psychometric properties of the measurement scales. Path modelling technique was used to test the proposed hypotheses. The results show that supply chain agility has a strong positive and significant relationship on supply chain responsiveness and competitive advantage. The study further shows a positive linkage between supply chain responsiveness and competitive advantage. The study is the first to research this important area, to test the relationship between these constructs in South African manufacturing firms using both the resource-based view and the dynamic capability theory. The implications, limitations and future research directions are provided.
