Abstract:
Climate change creates significant impacts on agricultural production in Vietnam, particularly rice production in the Mekong Delta, the largest rice production region of the country. This study aims to advance understanding of the impacts of climate change on rice production in the Mekong Delta through desktop studies of literature, followed by discussions of relevant response options and specific recommendations to climate change adaptation in the research area. This research has identified four major responses to climate change, namely, technological developments, farm production actions, farm financial strategies, and government support programs. The local context was analyzed to provide appropriate strategies towards climate-resilient farming communities in the Mekong Delta. The recommendations are also relevant to many disaster-prone production regions in the country.
