Abstract:
Wheat is a staple food for most of the world. With the growing population there is a tremendous pressure to increase the productivity of food crops. Wheat being most used food crop must be investigated thoroughly. Leaf senescence is the final stage of growth and development. Delaying the leaf senescence by few days has shown an increase in productivity. To understand the structure and function of histidine-containing phosphor-transfer protein 2 (HCP) of wheat, molecular modeling of HCP protein is performed. Sequence-structure analysis of HCP protein of wheat is performed, which is one of the two components - HCP and response regulator (RR) protein, of wheat. \\r\\nThis study is an attempt to understand the mechanism of cytokine-mediated senescence in wheat plant. A highly conserved histidine (H) at 80th position amongst all the sequences across the taxa confirms the role of H at this position in cytokinin signaling during senescence.
