SELF-EFFICACY OF RELATIONSHIP WITH THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF TYPE 2 DIABETES PATIENTS IN TUNTUNGAN COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS (PUSKESMAS) MEDAN

Abstract:
Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a disease that promotes self-management, which means that its management is mostly a combination of daily behaviors such as diet, exercise, medication, blood glucose monitoring, and foot care. There is not one single day diabetes self-management activities can be neglected, those activities must be carried out 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Self-management and self-efficacy with diabetes is a lifelong process that must be done every day and requires self-discipline and motivation to get the metabolic control and prevent long-term complications. It has been proven that increasing self-management and self efficacy of diabetic patients will be able to improve metabolic control and prevent long-term complications of diabetes as well as maintaining the quality of life remains good. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between self-efficacy and quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Puskesmas Tuntungan Medan. The study population was all patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who came went to the health center Tuntungan Medan. The samples are consecutive sampling as many as 83 people who meet the criteria for inclusion and exclusion. Data were collected through interviews using a questionnaire. For self-efficacy assessment using questionnaires Diabetes Mellitus Self Eficacy Scale (DMSES). Assessment of quality of life using the Medical Outcomes Study Short Form (SF-36) Health Survey. Data analysis using Chi Square test. Results showed efficacy in diabetic patients more self-less category as many as 66 people (79.5%). Quality of life of the majority of diabetic patients was as many as 64 people (77.1%), the results of chi square test show that there is a significant relationship between self-efficacy and quality of life of patients with Type 2 at the health center dm Tuntungan Medan (p <0.05). To increase self efficacy of diabetic patients need continuous education to the patient so as to increase understanding of the disease it will make patients more self-manage the disease so as to prevent complications and quality of life is maintained properly.
