Ponte - Feb 2018 - Volume 74 - Issue 2 doi: 10.21506/j.ponte.2018.2.11 Abstract: To consider the theoretical and methodological foundations for the creation of an energy-consuming theory of the firm. The article analyzes the traditional and modern theories of the firm on the subject of operating them with categories and positions of energy consumption processes and increasing the energy efficiency of production. In the opinion of the authors, in the conditions of the development of the digital economy, energy and energy resources become the basis for the functioning and development of any firm. It is determined that the potential of the company's theories in considering energy consumption and energy efficiency is not disclosed. It was also extended that the solution of the above problems is of a systemic nature and should be implemented at the junction of the institutional, technological, financial and economic capabilities of the firm. The conclusion of the paper is the proposal to create a so-called energy theory of the firm. The methods used in the study are based on the use of general philosophical and applied methods of analysis, in particular content analysis, as well as maximum consideration of theoretical and empirical data.
