Abstract:
The study was conducted to understand the relationship between the perceived effort-reward imbalance and job stress of the teachers and headteachers of government schools of Punjab (Pakistan). The respondents (123 teachers and 106 headteachers) were selected conveniently / accidentally from two randomly selected tehsils Sillanwali and Mianwali of Sargodha and Mianwali districts of Punjab (Pakistan). Two research instruments Effort-Reward Imbalance (ERI) scale and Stress in General (SIG) scale were adopted for the study. Pearson coefficient of correlation and simple linear regression model were applied to explore the relationship between effort-reward imbalance and job stress. The study found that the teachers and headteachers perceive that their efforts are greater the rewards they get. No significant difference was found between the perceptions of the teachers and headteachers regarding effort-reward imbalance. Furthermore, both teachers and headteachers reported a high level of job stress. The headteachers reported significantly higher level of job stress than the teachers. Significant positive relationships were found among the perceived effort-reward imbalance, over-commitment and job stress of the respondents.
