Abstract:
Abstract Because the main purpose of education and training activities is to ensure that students� behaviour is changed in a desired direction, the students themselves are considered to be the focus of such activities Therefore, it is important to assess to what extent behavioural changes occur and the main factors that influences students� failure at school. The purpose of this study is to assess the potential causes of school failure in adolescents, how such failure can be prevented, and to guide the teachers and counsellors by assessing their views. The study uses qualitative methods of data collection. The �Case Study,� type of qualitative research was used to conduct the research. Research was organized according to the patterns of the �Integrated Single Status,� a type of Case Study. The population of the study consists of PDR educators and junior high school teachers. To conduct the interviews, homogeneous sampling methods were used. The sample of this research comprised four branch teachers and two guidance counsellors who work at G�zelyurt Kurtulu? Lisesi as well as one branch teacher and three guidance counsellors who work at ?ehit Turgut Ortaokulu. The teachers and guidance/psychological counsellors who work at two schools described the factors affecting the achievement of the teenage school students as family problems the students� own problems and problems arising from the student's friends and social environment. Consequently, the principal causes of student failure were identified as having developmental disabilities, not understanding the correct method of studying, having low motivation, difficulty in adjusting to school, experiencing family problems, lack of effective communication with teachers, low motivation of their friends and deficiencies in their study habits. To prevent the academic failure of the students, the study determines that cooperation among the school, the family structure and the student was necessary.
