ORAL HISTORY OF THE PONTIAN GREEKS DEPORTED IN 1949 TO SOUTH KAZAKHSTAN

Abstract:
This article is considered the deportation of the Pontic Greeks from their historical homeland to the territories of Southern Kazakhstan in 1949. The resettlement aspect of the national policy of the Soviet state in Kazakhstan is being revealed. Based on the materials of oral histories is investigating the living conditions of immigrants and their integration into the new socio-cultural space are explored. The article is considered the problems of preserving the identity of the Greek people in extreme social conditions. It was established that the Pontic Greeks had a beneficial effect on the economic development of the region, entered to the socio-cultural life due to the tolerance of the Kazakh people. The investigation is based on the materials of the field expeditions on the deportation of the Greeks, which were collected by the authors in the city of Kentau in 2017. Interpretations of the materials collected during the interview showed that they did not experience any discrimination from the local population, many of interviewer emphasized gratitude to the Kazakh people. The article offers advantages and possibilities of using oral history in the studies of deportation of peoples.
