This paper discusses problems of proficiency in English by non-native speakers of the language and how the language has indeed become an essential necessity in today‟s global context. English is by far a dominant language in socio-economic affairs in the majority of countries in international affairs. English remains a language of wider communication throughout the world. In the light of this pivotal role played by English, there is an obvious need for an ongoing teaching and learning of the English language. This is in the best interest of building the required competence in English language. In order to attain this essential goal of successful teaching and learning of the English language, its importance must first be acknowledged. This is indeed fundamental for enhancing future all the learners of the language‟s linguistic abilities. Communicative competence is an extremely vital skill at work, in a career, for academic research, business or in socio-economic terms. Enhancing language proficiency through education is the best approach in today‟s environment. Unfortunately the implementation of this attempt has always been a failure in many countries.
