Abstract:
Urban generation projects, conducted by Municipalities, are put into practice in many cities in Turkey. Recently, those projects have been conducted in various areas of Bursa as well. In this study, two urban regeneration practices, with different spatial and physical outcomes, are evaluated by means of their qualifications and security. Both observational and ethnographic research methods were used along with the survey, conducted to the residents of Doğanbey Toki and Kızyakup, throughout the empirical study. The paper concludes that the project of trying to solve the problems of derelict areas in central locations with partial improvements plans, which do not take the social and physical integration into account, may fall short of creating a secure life in a sustainable and livable environment for the original dwellers without the citizen participation.
