Abstract:
This study compares the perceptions of employees across generations of specific organisational dimensions, namely, external values/rewards, an interesting and motivating work environment, learning and diversity, flexible and efficient work arrangements, workplace fun and constant growth and advancement in the workplace. The population comprised of 300 employees in a municipal department from which a sample of 93 employees was drawn using cluster sampling. Data was collected using a questionnaire whose psychometric properties were assessed. Data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Significant differences and similarities were noted amongst Baby Boomers, Generation Xers and millennials regarding the dimensions of the study. Based on the results of the study, recommendations are made that contribute to integrating the various generations in the workforce more cohesively as they work towards goal accomplishment.
