Abstract:
Clear physical-patient communication is important to attain patients’ satisfaction, like the significance of effective communication for successful results in any field. However, communication is greatly affected by the biasness of the clinician; therefore, the process is thought of as an art, rather than a science. This study determines how clinicians categorize the outcome of medical history taking in relations to patients’ maternal and paternal disease history, the patients’ own disease history, and their current occupation. A total of 1270 clinicians representing the specializations of otology, general surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, pulmonology, and psychiatry were recruited. University websites served as a useful source in collecting details related to clinicians’ professional background and contact details. The study has provided experience-based suggestions related to occupational and disease history. It further demonstrated the importance of creating a balance between effective clinical expertise and communication. The study concluded that good communication skills are important for physicians to promote effective treatment along with patient’s satisfaction.
