MINDFULNESS, PROCRASTINATION AND JOB PERFORMANCE AMONG EMPLOYEES: MODERATING EFFECT OF JOB SECURITY

Abstract:
Background: Job demand resource model and self-determination theory is widely used for understanding procrastination, mindfulness, job performance and job security in organizational settings. The job demand resource model has been further used to understand job security as moderator among employee's with mindfulness, procrastination and job performance. The endeavor of the current study to investigate moderating role of job security among mindfulness, procrastination and job performance across male and female employees.
Method: Purposive sampling technique was applied based on cross-sectional approach. Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS; Brown & Ryan, 2003), Tuckman's Procrastination Scale (TPS; Tuckman, 1991), and Job Performance Scale (JP-S; Wright, Kacmar, Mcmahan, &Deleeuw;, 1995) have been used to a sample of 400 male and female employees from different telecom's employee of Rawalpindi and Islamabad in Pakistan.
Results: The correlation as well as moderation analyses have been used to investigate the study data. Findings demonstrate that permanent employees are higher on mindfulness and whereas contractual employees are scoring high on procrastination. Additionally, moderating effect of job security on mindfulness and job performance shows non-significant impact whereas the moderating effect of job security on procrastination and job performance has significant findings. The mod-graph showing permanent employees have more procrastination tendencies then contractual employees which effecting their job performance as well.
Conclusion: The results support the job resource demand model and self-determination theory. According to JDR model, job demands and resources play important role in job performance of an employee in organizations and self-determination theory supports that mindfulness could be decrease procrastination and increase job performance in male and female employees. These findings also suggest that job security could inhibit job performance in male and female employees.
