INVESTIGATING THE EFFECT OF TOPOLOGY ON QUANTITATIVE OPTIMIZATION OF THE PARAMETERS OF IEEE 802.15.4 (ZIGBEE) STANDARD PROTOCOL TO INCREASE THE THROUGHPUT OF WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS Author(s): Majid Jafarian ,Masoud Sabaei J. Ponte - Jul 2016 - Volume 72 - Issue 7 doi: 10.21506/j.ponte.2016.7.1 Abstract: Today, wireless sensor networks are of great importance and efficiency. These networks have become a useful tool for extracting data from the environment and monitoring environmental events. They are also increasingly used in household, industrial and military areas. Given the importance and usage of wireless sensor networks, the need to develop and standardize wireless short-range technology with low power consumption is essential. Today, there exist several technologies for this issue. One of these technologies is IEEE 802.15.4 protocol that defines the features of physical layers and MAC in the wireless networks. Given the importance of optimizing this protocol, the interaction of SO and BO parameters on different throughput parameters and the effect of topology on these parameters in this study is investigated using simulation and quantitative and analytical methods and the optimal values of the combination of BO and SO were identified. The optimum values increase the "throughput" reduce "end-to-end delay" and reduce "packet loss ratio" and as a result lead to increase in throughput of the networks with star and tree topology. At the end, the above points were compared in networks based on star and tree topology so as to determine the effect of topology on this process.
