Abstract:
This work was conducted to study the hepatoprotective role of the aqueous extract of Haloxylon artimatum boiss on nickel-induced hepatotoxicity. A dose of 0.2% was administered to wistar rats by gavage for 90 days. A chemical analysis of the extract was performed prior to its oral administration to rats at a dose of 300 mg/kg/day for 20 days. The High pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) identified 82% of the plants compounds with the majority of Tricyclene present. "Ni" intoxication disrupted liver function and increased blood glucose levels by 2.88 g/l ;serum urea 0.80 g/l, and creatinine 18 mg/l, GER = 70 IU/l, TGP= 68 IU/l ; total bulirebin 140.2 mg/dl, g/l. The levels of markers of peroxidation of cholesterol lipids 2.45, triglycerides 1.68 g/l, total proteinemia 11.2g/dl, albumin 7.8 g/dl . Treatment with plant extract reduced alterations in liver markers, decreased lipid peroxidation markers, increased the cascade of antioxidants. These results show that the aqueous extract has a hepatoprotective effect.
