The purpose of the present study is to investigate the participation of Mercedes Cervelló in the educational field in the City of Chillán, Chile, between the years 1845 to 1874, and how this civilized and moralized the local population in order to integrate them into the requirements of economical development and progress. The hermeneutical process was performed through a case study that allowed to understand the participation of Mercedes Cervelló in primary, secondary and higher education, focusing on two main subjects: homogenize and discipline the population within the study period.
