Abstract:
Network Availability is backbone of every network. Every Chief Technology Officer always tries to reduce downtime in their network. Different people use different methods to keep up their networks. This depends upon type, topology and applications running on the network. There are different techniques and protocols for network reliability and availability such like Resilience Packet Ring, Rapid Ring Protection Protocol, Bidirectional Forwarding Detection, Spanning Tree Protocol, Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol, Fast Reroute, and Provider Backbone Transport. Most of these protocols are used in Wide Area Network and Metro area Network or need high restoration time.
For Local Area Network protection most popular protection method is spanning tree protocol/rapid spanning tree protocols. It has two big limitations. First it has recovery time 30-50 sec which is high especially in critical situation. Second it is layer 2 protocol so cannot work in layer 3 and above layer devices. Finally this protocol cannot work in wired and wireless network at same time. To address these problems it is suggested a new method/protocol which specially designed for Datacenter network and works in wired and wireless networks simultaneously. This new method provides very less down time. This is ideal for ring and half mesh topology. OMNeT simulator is used to simulate the required results. Simulation result shows that restoration time is very less in this new method.
